
Hanks his next film role was as astronaut and commanding officer Jim Lovell in the 1995 docudrama Apollo 13. This reunited Hanks once more with Ron Howard. The film was generally praised by critics as well as the performance of the whole ensemble (which comprised Kevin Bacon and Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris) and Kathleen Quinlan. The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards and it took home two. Later that year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. He made his directorial debut a year later in The Thing You Do! (1996) that chronicles the rise and fall of a 1960s music group. He also took on the role of a music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel described his performance as "charming" and the majority of reviewers agreed with the fact that Hanksrole made him one of the finest romantic comedy actors of his time.
